Critical Mass is thought to be a descendant of the acclaimed strain Big Bud. It produces similar effects however the intention was to create an amplified and more pleasurable high. The new strain has also been adapted to produce a higher yield, making it an attractive choice for growers. Critical Mass continually gains global popularity and its easy to see why.
Critical Mass is a combination of Afghani and Skunk that originated from the breeder Mr. Nice Seed Bank. With a large “critical mass” of production, branches tend to snap from the weight of these dense buds. Flowering time is approximately 6-8 weeks, with a heavy leaf to flower ratio. However, due to the large production of flowering, this strain is susceptible to mold which can be reduced by growing indoors to reduce humidity.
Critical Mass is an Indica-dominant strain named for the extremely large buds that have been known to snap their own branches in half. This strain has a rather high THC range of 19%-22%, which is impressive for a strain with such large buds. The combination of Kush and Cola flavors deliver a potent body-numbing buzz that can make users feel lazy and sedated. Most users report this strain brings a clearing of the mind, leaving them feeling creative and focused, yet lethargic. The effects usually last between 2-2.5 hours, depending on the dose. Some users find this strain thought-provoking and nearly psychedelic. As nearly all strains with high THC content, this strain when consumed in higher quantities can produce dry mouth and eyes as well as some paranoia and anxiety.
Critical Mass is a superstar strain that has been used for thousands of hybridisation sessions. The reason why Critical Mass attracts mad respect is because it’s a super-yielding strain that develops an abundance of nugs in no time.
This strain is most often reserved for evening or night-time use due to its sedating effect. For the same reason, it’s good for insomniacs seeking a full night’s rest. Critical Mass Indica body high may ease most chronic aches and pains as well as relieve stress and anxiety. Others choose this strain for migraines, nausea, and anorexia.
Afghani x Skunk #1 (originally from Mr. Nice Seeds, their version of Sensi’s Big Bud)
Bred by Mr. Nice Seedbank
Thin claw-shaped wasabi green sepals with armadillo accents arranged in open spiral calyxes, snaked with shocks of ochre pisitls, and above average coverage by short, thick-stalked trichomes with large heads
Slightly earthy, musky, and lightly citrusy smell which limited pungency, even after grinding
A base piney, earthy type of profile that was somewhat pungent, but didn’t really taste like anything specific of noteworthy. It wasn’t just the taste of smoke itself, but was not too far from that point — the Afghani seems to have taken charge in the flavor department for sure, as there was no Dutch Skunk sweetness in it at all.
This medicine came on fairly strong to start, hitting behind the eyes and giving a somewhat heavy feeling (like being pulled downwards) throughout the body. An uptick in head pressure and a vibrating/buzzing feeling around the scalp and face made for a relaxing experience, as did the buzzing body. The reviewer who had the largest dosage felt a bit more mentally-stilted than the others, staying in that slightly spacey, stare-at-nothing type of state for much of the first hour. The others reported a less heavy feeling during this period, one that left them able to function if needed, and overall elevating the mood and making for a placid, smiley mood overall. Regardless, the main feelings began to decline around 1 hour, leaving behind either a smooth relaxation, or a deep one, largely depending upon dosage. One reviewer who did the review late fell asleep at the 1.5 hour mark, earlier than normal for him, and awoke feeling wonderful, so we believe there are some sleep aid properties to this one for sure.
